Yes, I know I'm an hour late. I was out for most of the evening taking a test. That I didn't do well on. And then it started raining. :(

But then my friends took me out for massive amounts of ice cream. :D

The RA brought it by after I got back from the restaurant. :D

My roommate and his girlfriend know I'm a fan of the show (and the girlfriend used to watch it often too), so they made me a card with KP on it. I thought it was very cute and quite thoughtful. :)

And I got a huge kick (har, har) out of the not-quite-Disney-sanctioned greeting text!

I also have the same birthday with some famous folks, including several athletes, a few of them current (A.J. Pierzynski of the White Sox; Kerry Collins of the Titans; current L.A. King Rob Scuderi; some basketball player in Miami; and some golfer named Eldrick), as well as one Hall of Famer (Sandy Koufax). I also share a birthday with two of the Monkees (Michael Nesmith and Davy Jones)!

Oh, and today (December 31) marks the 67th birthday of Sir Ben Kingsley. He features in two of my favorite movies of the 90s - Sneakers and Dave. Of course, the role that really propelled him was his Oscar-winning turn in the title role of Gandhi back in '82.

And, in a way, I'll wish the Great State of Texas a "Happy :alumnus:Birthday" as well.......Okay, maybe it should really be March 2, since that was when the Declaration of Independence from Mexico was signed. Never owned an actual VW car, but I did own a couple of toy versions, thanks to the Transformers line - Throttlebot Goldbug (1987), and Pretender Classics Bumblebee (1989).

Of course, these days, Volkswagen doesn't want to be involved with the Transformers property, as they don't want to be associated with "war toys". But then again, Generation 1 Bumblebee/Goldbug was a scout and spy, and not much of a fighter (due to lacking firepower and physical strength)... and as affable as they come. (That could have changed in the IDW comics, as I haven't read them; they're a separate continuity from the original Marvel comics and cartoon continuities, and Darker and Edgier certainly applies, from what I've heard.)

There have been 4 VWs in my family...Dad bought a Beetle - brand new - back in '63, which got me hooked on the car (it was love at first sight, quite literally). I've owned three Vee-Dubs myself: A 1964 Bug (whose previous owner told me it was a '63); a '98 New Beetle; and my present car, the 2005 Passat.
You know, I think Dr. Ferdinand Porsche would be really pleased if he could see Volkswagen's organization today - VW is currently the biggest car manufacturer in Europe, as well as having assembly plants all over the world. There's even a VW factory in mainland China - not to mention their newest plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Yep, his dream of a "people's car" has certainly come true - but I don't think even Dr. Porsche could have imagined VW growing this big in his wildest dreams....

Thank you, everyone!

I had a fairly quiet birthday. Had lunch with my dad after his dialysis session, got a new Foreman grill from him (hey, they're pretty good, and even better with detachable plates that can even go in the dishwasher), then later had dinner with my mom, who gave me money for my birthday (I also put her newest Cliff Richard and Alfie Boe CDs on her iPod for her). This evening I was treated to a Pistons game by my cousin (he's the big basketball fan, but I still like the Pistons, and they won tonight, so bonus!). I'm just going to ring in the new year quietly, though (yeah, I'm lame), then have a full birthday celebration with my family tomorrow afternoon (hopefully, following a Lions win).
