We'll with the finale just next week and all the episodes have aired for season 4... we still have no idea as to when or why the old Kimmuncator went out and the new wrist one came in. Though fan fiction writers gotta love an open piece to create a story... I was hoping it would have been covered in an episode. Or maybe it was going to be in an episode but got cut out do to time restraints? :errr::unsure:

More than likely it was cut... I guess they want us to think about what might have happened to the old Kimmunicator. Maybe we'll get a flashback in the season finale or something along the lines of an explaination...

It was kind of expalined in Homecoming Upset, Kim mentions her 'new Kimmunicator' at the beginning. She probably got it somewhere between Clothes Minded and that. But why, we'll never know. I say because it looks stylish and high-tech!

This is true.. Good catch. I tell you what that wrist Kimmunicator is like the ultimate swiss army watch that someone could have. On screen display, Magnets, grappling hook.... but I wonder if it tells the time?

Can this Kimmunicator sprout wings, wheels and pontoons and be controlled remotely by Wade like the old one could?

Who's to say? I dont think we really got enough time to see what all that Kimmunicator had in it. Wade probably could of done all kinds of things with it, if he couldn't then he'd probably would of kept the old style.

According to Steve Loter, the new Kimmunicator came about because the writing team was tired of stories where Kim loses the Kimmunicator for one reason or another.

Ha ha! That's true! Kim and/or Ron lost the old Kimmunicator many times in the older seasons (A Very Possible Christmas, Emotion Sickness, Downhill, etc.)
I guess Wade was kinda sick of the Kimmunicator getting lost too, hence making the watch styled one. Strapping it to her wrist saves them a lot of trouble.

Here's the thing about the new Kimmunicator that perplexes me.
Kim wears it on her right wrist. Assuming that she wears it like most people wear a watch, does this mean Kim is left handed? Most people wear their watch on the opposite wrist form the hand they use the most. Right handed= Left wrist, Left handed = Right wrist.
It just looks a little odd to me, since I believe every time we've sene Kim write, she's been right handed. If I'm wrong on this, please let me know.

Actually, yes, I think you're right. I believe she is right handed, because anytime she actually wrote something (like signing her name to the contract in "Car Alarm"), it was right handed. Her writing is also right handed. So yes, that is somewhat strange she would wear the wrist unit on her right wrist.:hmm:

I do the exact same thing.. I mean, when I first put a watch on, it went on my dominant hand and that's where it's stayed. It really doesn't make sense for me not to have it on that hand..
But I digress.. I have always just thought that Kimmie's new Kimmunicator really didn't need a big story (I thought "My new Kimmunicator" sufficed), I mean it was just an upgrade. But it was kinda sad to see an object of such familiarity, the old Kimmunicator, disappear.

You ain't the only one. I've done for as long as I can remember. I thought if you were right handed, that was the hand you use for your watch. (same for L-handed people)

The bottom line for me in this whole thing was every thing that Kim got that was new... Her car and new mission outfit was pretty well featured in it's own episode and it everything about it was very clear... this wasn't and that kinda stinks. :dubiety:

Maybe they thought it was a little much to write a whole story about her Kimmunicator.. And I mean it kinda was inevitable that she was going to get a new Kimmunicator seeing as her outfit had changed to dramatically.

And, she has a lot fewer pockets to work with now. I think the reason Kim wears it on her right wrist is that it's not just looked at like a watch is: built-in grappling hook has to be aimed, and it's easier to aim it with the dominant hand. Watches get worn on the left wrist because the stem on a traditional watch is in a place where it's easier to operate with the right hand without removing the watch.

Unfortunately, Wade's gone 'Pentagon' (of US $500-dollar fame) on us: cram as much into one piece as 'Possible.'
A wrist grappler on her right hand (ala 'Spidey'), except over the top of the wrist, and a smaller wristcom on the left would eliminate the multiple failure issues. He's gone down that path in the JadeKimVerse; of course, Joss had a little 'sump'in' to do with that: it's amazing how well your brain will work when you're in love!

Good points. I never thought about it, but Bluetooth is right. The stem on my wrist-watch is located on the right side, which means I have to use my right hand (the dominant one) to set the time or change the date.
The only time I've worn my watch on my right arm was while my left arm was in a cast this past spring after I broke my elbow. I continued to wear it there (after the cast came off) while my left arm was too stiff to rotate the wrist so I could look at the watch. After a couple months of physical therapy, I moved the watch back to my left wrist where it belongs.
EDIT: Jeriddian, the Autocensor just did a number on the word "w-r-i-s-t-w-a-t-c-h." Can we get that adjusted so it doesn't happen again?

The placement of the winding stem? Or the custom of wearing watches on the left wrist?
My wrist timepiece (Ha!) has no winding stem, but has buttons mounted at approximately 2, 5, 7 & 10 positions.

Campy, IMHO the answer is yes. Since watches were originally pocket in nature, the stem was on the top and could easily be used by either hand. When they went to wrist, the makers went for the market share: right-handed individuals.

Hmmm...good questions. Something to look up on-line or at the library, huh?I did a couple of searches. All I found is that righthanders wear their watches on the left because the watch is subject to less abuse on the nondominant hand. The stem was then placed to facilitate adjustment by righthanders.
Since Wade tech is probably indestructable, Kim can wear her Kimmunicator on either hand.

As for the "we got tired of Kim losing her Kimmunicator" answer, I think that's a little bit weak. Just don't include losing it into the plot. Out of the pocket and then right back in, no big.
The bottom line for me in this whole thing was every thing that Kim got that was new... Her car and new mission outfit was pretty well featured in it's own episode and it everything about it was very clear... this wasn't and that kinda stinks. :dubiety:
I was slightly annoyed about that too. It was included in the original press release material and wallpapers; the least they could do was a have a line or two of backstory. It might not even have to be in an actual episode; include it on the website or in a promo commercial or something like that.
Personally, I'm a bit die-hard about Kim's original appearance. Say "Kim Possible" and I immediately picture the black top and olive cargos. In my fanfictions such as "The After," which was written after S4 started, I've managed to handwave away the new developments (the watch doesn't work as well at extended high altitude; etc), but I know I can't outrun it forever. Unless I want to turn the subject into a running gag. :P
Since Wade tech is probably indestructible, Kim can wear her Kimmunicator on either hand.
Maybe Kim's ambidextrous? :alumnus:

Indeed. At the very least the watch could have gotten the same treatment as Kim's hairdryer/grappling gun got back in Bueno Nacho... even if it does scream "Buy the totally new Kim Possible action figure with all new accessories!"

Interesting, I'm right handed and originally wore my watch on my right arm. When I started flying I shifted it to my left since the right hand is the control hand and the left is the throttle hand.
It's become a habit, now.

Funny you should say that: that remimded me of the reason I shifted my watch to my left wrist
As a violinist, the watch was annoying on my right wrist (bowing arm); the left hand, the fingering hand, was not bothered while playing, so the watch moved.
That happened so long ago, I'd forgotten about it: thanks for shaking that memory from the depths of my mind....

Back when I wore a watch, I wore it on my left hand, because when I write with my right hand, having something on the wrist like that bothers me.
But, I haven't worn a watch in about five years now, since I started carrying a phone. XD

I've worn some complicated watches in the past (including scientific calculators, fancy multi-purpose watches that communicated with my PC {which oddly didn't work with XP} and even one with a built in TV remote) I'm moderately ambidextrous, but it would feel awkward operating them with my left hand.
Just tried another experiment. My left hand doesn't know how to put a watch with a buckled strap on my right wrist.
On the proper topic: I was perfectly satisfied with the intro of the wrist Kimmunicator. Everyone was expecting some big 'unwrap the box' moment, but it was simply Kim identifying it as 'new', that's all. It wasn't as important as the Sloth (or mishandled like her new clothes)

I wore one of those once... I set it to the schools tv's and turned on the TVs in each class room I had during the middle of class.. Never did get caught.
I've always worn a watch on my Right hand, cause I'm right handed, but I quit today after I smacked a friend with it... On accident.
Well, I like the new KP Kimmunicator... Its sleak and stylish, and its got alot of curves. I wonder if it has capalities of making Nacos... That would be usefull on a long trip for Ron and Rufus.

I did try to ask Steve why the wrist Kimmunicator wasn't introduced like the rest of Kim new stuff but never got an answer. But i'm not sure weather he ducked the question or just missed it but the whole plot on it will remain a mystery answer from the writers... but hey, fan fics writers have something left open and a good story could be written on it.
