View Full Version : Why Is My Post Count Not Advancing?

I've just made about 4 posts to the forum, yet my post count still reads "9"

In order to stimulate better posting, there is a condition set up on the forum that specifies a minimum 20 word response in order for the post count to advance. The idea of this is to cut down on the one or two word type replies which don't really add much to the discussions at hand. So in order for your post count to advance, write 20 words or more.

This minimum is not written in stone, however, if the membership here thinks it should be changed. So far, everyone seems to be okay with it.

On another note, do you have your password? If you will post it in the "password verification" sticky thread in the General Discussion forum, I will award you credit for your post count from ARA. If you don't have it, I will send it to you through FF.net.:)

I do not support the idea of a minimum word count simply because I prefer to be succinct rather than verbose. Sometimes a yes or no answer is all that is needed in a post, rather than an essay. Very often, if a response requires scrolling, I'll simply scan it rather than read it unless it's captivating.

Well, I'm more than willing to consider reducing the minimum word count for that. :)

I think 10 word mininum would be the way to go... I know that theres been times that I was going to say something about something but really didnt have enough to drag it out to make the post count. So you could either not reply or drag it out and bable on just to get the post to count... Dang it I confused myself again :unsure::laugh:

I will go ahead and then change it, provided no one else objects. I have a feeling then that everyone else will be okay with it.

Maybe we could try a fifteen-word minimum? Like Commander Argus, I prefer to write shorter posts, but I think post counts should reflect contributions to a topic, not every reply. It also leaves wiggle room for "fun" topics, such as "What Are You Listening to Now?" and the old "Stuck on an Island" threads.

I'm still listening.:) If there are more who wish a different number, just say so. I may just split the difference then.

Ten or fifteen works for me. I won't have to struggle so much to pad.

I want my fourth star!

Ten or fifteen words minumum is fine with me too. I can find plenty to say to fulfill that requirement.

Well, twelve or thirteen.....:)

I think that twelve would be just fine. One or two relatively short sentences could easily fulfill the requirement, then.

And thirteen? That just seems too odd a number to actually use...

That and the fact that 13 isn't exactly a lucky number by any means... Yeah 12.5 sounds great... no, wait. I ment 12:laugh:

I'd put my vote on ten...
...because I caught myself writing lengthy and not all too helpful extensions to my posts just in order to get them into the count criteria. Like this one.:harhar:

(Oh, that I'd like to have further silver stars is not my motivation at all.:innocent::P)

(Huh? Oh, I must have missed one page. Sorry, guys!)
