Well... this isn't the exact program I'm looking for... but it may do what I need it to do... Thanks for the link.
that was the only promising result after consulting google for about 5 min.
i personally wouldn't spend any money on those kind of software, because there has to be freeware for that too, might be less professional support, if necessary. can't give you another alternative, not using those kind of software.
well maybe it's just me, i try to figure out why where the problem is and maybe solve it on my own. and i can't see if it would be successful if there are too many major problems.

I tried the program... sadly its not what I was hoping it would be. It scans the registry and programs but not the hardware.:dubiety:

What exactly is the problem you are having with the computer?
hmm hardware, that's what you can test:
RAM: http://www.memtest.org/
Harddisk: try the diagnostic tool from the manufacturer
Graphics card/CPU: well there can you try stress tests. and they aren't working properly there might be failure (i'd have to look them up, if necessary)
but like jeriddian said: what are the problems?
that's the best to start with. anything else is just a wild guess.

What exactly is the problem you are having with the computer?
It's running SLOW! I put a brand new 100gb 7200Rpm seagate hard drive in it (So if it is the HD It has a 5 year warranty and ill get it swapped out) and seems like it got slower. I'd like to test the hard drive and the rest of the system to see if I can find what the issue is.

I doubt it's the hard drive. Most issues with slow speed have to do with the system bus and RAM, when it's a hardware issue. More than likely it's going to be a software issue such as a virus or malware. What's your OS? How many different programs do you have running on the computer? How long has it been since you had the OS installed? Do you regularly upgrade the OS with updates? Have you defragged the HDD? (of course with a new one that's not an issue). Is your registry cleaned up well? These are some of the questions that run through my mind.

Peronally, I hate Nortonworks. They take too many liberties and do stuff to your computer without asking you if you want it done. I'm still thining you haev a vorus in there somewhere. Norton doesn't get them all.

So... what would you recommend? I know norton is getting bad as far as there program goes... 2006 system works was resource hog and they started to be jerks on how many computers you could install the program in your house before you had to pay extra. I just want a good program and not have to buy a copy for every computer.

I used to go with McAfee, until they came out with Verson 9, which really seemed to screw my computer up. There are a lot more antivirus products out there now, and so I read up on them in Consumer Reports, which rated McAfee like sixth and Norton tenth. I bought Zone Alarm, rated number two. So far it seems to be working good, but my problems with teh computer were not with it slowing down. I think you got a malware or a resource hogger like Status Client (an HP program) or SBC Support tools (If you loaded SBC Yahoo software to get the DSL). You might check he Windows Task Manager (Ctl-Alt-Del) and check the processes window and see if there is a particular process that's hogging the resources.

I Just actually noticed that someone upgraded the webroot spyware program to include the anti-virus service. Webroots been great for spyware from what I've see. I need to update the program to get this virus protect.
I just took a quick review and a program called ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus gets pretty high marks... Cnet.com. 9.1 out of 10 on the user rating and 94% gave it a 5 eggs out of 5 rating on newegg.com... dont know much about it but ill read up on it. Webroot did fair pretty good... it did better then norton and mcafee when it came to user ratings. Im going to see if this ESET programs got a trial to see the interfance and what not.

Could it be that you've got too many programs running at once? That'll slow your computer down. My brother just helped me install software called "EndItAll." It's a systems management software suite that shuts down any unnecessary systems you're not using on your computer.

Yeah, Actually I cut alot of programs back from running when it boots. You know the little icons in the bottom right corner near the clock? I only have about 6 things booting up when I start it.:errr: I just think i need a new laptop.
6 items in the system tray?
well i do have just 29 there. and yes it takes some time to start them all, but if once all is loaded into the RAM everthing works fine and fast. just the slow harddrive is to blame.

I might just back up the files on it and just format and re-install the os again. Maybe it'll fix it. Can't hurt to try.

That's the other suggestion I wa going to make. A clean reinstall usually does the trick too.

Seems to be paying off... but I wont know for sure till 100% of the programs are back installed... but i'm hopeful that this will fix the problem.

Well.. 24 hours later and all the programs are back on and running and it seems to of fixed the problem. The boot lagging seems to have went away and the computer is more responsive. So it was worth the work thats for sure. Problem solved.
and now that everything runs fine. i have a suggestion what you could do to reduce the time if you need to do that again: make an image of the current system state (with for example: http://selfimage.excelcia.org/) or you could do an automated installation disc, which needs a bit time to prepare that. the latter is what i do.

Not a bad idea. Thanks... Hopefully i can do it on my external drive.
as long as the free space is more bigger than the system partition then it wouldn't be any problem with that.
one thing more for the usage of the image, you can't use it on another computer (except the hardware is exactly the same, otherwise it's bad, but could work though) than the one where you created it. the image should contain anything what you install.
for the image solution you might need the ultimate boot CD (http://www.ubcd4win.com/), because you can't get it back while windows is booted. the previous mentioned image tool is already integrated there.
for an automated install disc and more which is computer independent: http://unattended.msfn.org/

I've got a 500gb external hard drive that will work just fine. Thanks again for the info. Hopefully This won't happen again.
