I thought this was kind of depressing, not because some parents may and this company feels there's a need to equip students with Kevlar, but depressing because of the thought that they might be right. http://backpackshield.com.

It's unfortunate that we've reached the point where a product like this actually seems like a viable option. :ohwell: While I'm not advocating the armed teacher concept that some folks have thrown around, there's got to be a better solution for our kids than simply armoring them up and hoping the gunman doesn't aim for the head.

An obvious solution for college students can be to allow those who posses valid CCW permits to carry on campus (I know California and many other states already allow this), though I really can't think of what can be done about our K-12 schools.

I know all of us would like to think that this isn't going to happen again, but the fact is there will be another school shooting... it's an unfortunate inevitability. :dubiety:

It is... it's truely sad that something like this is becoming more and more common in schools and colleges. What doesn't make since is these people should be "educated" and know better then to do things like this..:dubiety:

The problem is also that those kids who are driven by their environment and social situations to commit these crimes don't have the maturity and judgement to understand what they are doing. But we may have no choice but to make our schools virtual armed camps if that's what it takes to protect the children, despite the fact it is so extreme.:dubiety:

There is nothing noble or honorable about the "Gangsta" philosophy. It is nothing more than gang mentality. A criminal gang is just that, whether it was the from the Irish gangs of New York in the late 1800's, to Jewish gangs of the early 20th century, to La Cosa Nostra, to the present incarnation defined by that word. Their indiscriminate use of firearms is just as indicative of their disdain for human life any of their predecessors. Unfortunately, when they do use them, we have to often up the ante and protect ourselves with them as well.:ohwell:

It's a little disconcerting to realize that there's a serious market for this item, especially since it's designed to help protect our children from gunfire in our schools.:blink: Sometimes I wonder if our current civilization's undergoing a decline similar to that of the Roman Empire...:unsure:

Some people would say it's due to a decline in overall morals, in addition to a deterioration of our schools in terms of quality. Of course, it's multi-factorial, and a declining economic status also partly to blame, I think. Trying to fix it, though, Is going to be extremely difficult.:dubiety:
