Chapter 10: Keeping the Promise
(chapter written by BlinknSkater)
Kim and Quin crept along the darkened walls of the military base.
“I wonder what Drakken and Shego are up to now.” Kim wondered.
“Who knows.” Quin replied quietly.
“Quin, you sure you’re up to it?” Kim asked for the hundredth time.
“Yes Kim!” Quin replied, rolling her eyes. “Now let’s hurry up and check this out so that we can get back to the hospital.”
“Yeah.” Kim agreed as they continued to creep.
Silently, the two crept into the doorway.
“I can’t see a thing!” Quin whispered to Kim. The inside of the room was pitch black.
Kim reached into her backpack and pulled out two pairs of glasses-type things.
“Here.” Kim said as she shoved a pair toward Quin.
“What’s this?” Quin asked as she fingered the glasses.
“Just put ‘em on.” Kim replied.
Quin did as she was told and when she put them on, she found that she could see Kim.
“These are great Kim.” Quin whispered.
“Yeah.” Kim agreed. “They’re something Wade just whipped up.”
“Cool.” Quin whispered in reply.
The two once again sneaked quietly through the room looking for signs of Drakken or Shego but not seeing any.
“That’s weird.” Kim remarked. “Shouldn’t we have seen something by now?”
“Yeah. We shoulda.” Quin answered.
Kim held up her hand, signaling Quin to stop.
“What is it Kim?” Quin whispered.
“I think I see Drakken.” Kim said.
“Where?” Quin asked.
Kim pointed up toward a balcony. “There.”
“I see him.” Quin looked at Kim. “Do you think that this was some sort of trap?”
“Most likely.” Kim replied.
“Then, shouldn’t we leave?” Quin asked.
“Aw, but you just got here.” came a familiar, mocking voice. “Why don’t you stay awhile?”
Both Kim and Quin knew that voice really well. They spun around to face their opponent.
“Thanks Shego, but no thanks.” Kim replied sarcastically.
“Really . . . I insist!” Shego said, launching herself at Kim as she said the last word.
Kim jumped back.
Quin knew how she and Kim could see in the dark, but she wondered how Shego could - Shego didn’t have the glasses she and Kim did.
Then Quin thought that perhaps Shego’s glowing hands were giving her some light to see by.
Whatever the case was, Quin knew that she had to turn on some lights. The glasses she and Kim were wearing let them see only so far in the dark, so Shego could easily maneuver Kim into some sort of trap - if that was the plan.
She began looking along the wall for some sort of switch - hopefully one that was a light switch.
A noise caused Quin to look up just in time to see Shego and Kim coming toward her, still locked in combat. Quin had just enough time to move before she got hit by a fist or foot.
However, Quin wasn’t fast enough to avoid a knock all together. Shego had to dodge Kim’s foot, and she bumped into Quin.
Quin’s thermal imaging glasses flew off her face leaving her in total darkness.

“Can’t we wait just five more minutes for them?” Ron asked groggily as the anesthesia started to do it’s job.
“Ronald, honey, the doctor’s need to get started.” his mother told him.
“But . . . I want . . . Kim and Quin to be here.” Ron said.
His mother put her hand on his forehead. “They’ll be here hon. The sooner you get into the surgery, the better off you’ll be.”
“But . . . they promised . . . they’d be . . . here.” Ron said two times more groggy than before.
“Then they’ll be here.” him mother replied softly.
“Yeah . . . I guess . . . you’re right.” Ron said as the medicine did it’s job.

“Raah!” Shego grunted as she tried to kick Kim. Kim just merely side-stepped and came back at Shego with a little greater force.
She was doing fairly well.
Kim could see Quin stumbling around in the darkness looking for something around the walls. Kim knew that she wasn’t looking for her glasses - they were only a few inches away from her feet.
Kim did a backflip away from Shego and landed behind her.
Kim wasn’t stupid - she instantly knew the moment she started fighting that Shego was trying to maneuver her.
She dodged Shego’s hands. As Kim moved, she felt her glasses slipping off her face. She tried to push them back up, but Shego made a move that forced Kim to defend herself. The glasses slipped off her face and clattered to the ground.
Now Kim was engulfed in the darkness.
\\This should be interesting.// Kim thought sarcastically to herself.
The only way she was able to see where to block was by Shego’s hands - but they didn’t light up enough and Kim couldn’t see Shego’s feet.
But Shego couldn’t see Kim’s either.
Kim knew that Shego wouldn’t “turn them out” because then she would have just as hard a time as Kim was having.
Suddenly Shego’s glowing hands went down to the ground. Kim caught a glimpse of her glasses in Shego’s hands.
“Drop them!” Kim yelled.
Shego only laughed menacingly as the only light Kim could see by went out.
Now Shego had a great advantage over Kim.
Kim tried to block Shego, but by not being able to see, wasn’t all that able to. She felt a kick at her legs, then felt the cement against her face.
Kim jumped up and did a backflip away from Shego and landed by Quin.
“Kim? Is that you?” came Quin’s voice.
“Yeah.” Kim answered. “Give me your glasses.”
“I don’t have them.” Quin replied.
“I know. They’re somewhere by your feet.” Kim said quickly as she had to dodge Shego’s onslaught.
Quin bent down and searched for the glasses, but couldn’t find them.
“Kim! I can’t find them!” Quin called as she stood up. As she did, she felt her back brush against something.
The room flooded with light.
“But I found a light switch!” Quin added wryly.
“I can see that. Good work.” Kim replied as she charged Shego, now able to see. She glared at Shego. “I have to get back to my friend . . .” Kim started as she kicked Shego. “So, I’ve gotta leave.”
Using Shego’s head as a launching pad, Kim jumped over Shego and toward the door that led to the main part of the military base.
Military personnel flooded the room.
Shego flipped toward Drakken. Once Shego was in the balcony, Drakken pulled a lever and a piece of the balcony started to hover. He pulled another lever and the hovercraft sped off through the open door.
“Drat! They’ve escaped.” Kim sighed.
“Yeah.” Quin replied. “Well come on. Let’s get back to the hospital. We promised Ron we’d be there.”
“Yeah.” Kim agreed. “Let’s go.”
The two quickly walked out of the base and made their way to the hospital.
