Chapter 12: Trouble in China
He slowly opened his eyes, blinking them quickly to clear away the fuzziness that was still in them. Is it over?
When his vision finally cleared, Ron looked toward his left then toward his right. In the chairs beside his bed, he saw his parents asleep on each other's shoulders, but, to his dismay, he didn't see either Kim or Quin.
He looked around the room just to be sure they weren't somewhere else, but it was no use. They weren't there.
Ron sighed. Both Quin and Kim had promised to be here when he went into surgery . . . they weren't. Before the anesthesia had done its work, Ron figured that they both would have at least been with him when he woke up.
Did they change their minds or are they not going to come because they're mad at me for not telling them sooner?
Ron quickly dismissed that idea. Of course they wouldn't stay mad at him . . . they were his best friends after all, but a strange feeling was growing in the pit of his stomach. It grew stronger by the minute and soon Ron recognized the feeling was that of worry.
His best friends wouldn't back out on a promise to him, that much he knew, but why weren't they here? Were they in some sort of trouble?
Ron groaned a little as he tried to sit up in the bed. He didn't have the strength or the coordination to sit himself up, but the groan caught the attention of his mother who immediately stirred in her sleep.
"Ronald?" his mother asked as she blinked her eyes quickly and sat up. "How are you feeling?"
As she leaned over on Ron's bed, Mr. Stoppable also stirred. He looked at Ron, his eyes filled with relief.
"Okay." Ron replied, his voice raspy. "Mom, where's Kim and Quin?"
"They were here when you got out of surgery, but only for a few minutes." Mrs. Stoppable explained. "I think they said something about stopping Dr. Drakken."
"Oh." Ron replied. That seemed about right. He knew that Kim and Quin wouldn't leave him unless it was necessary. "How long ago did they leave?"
Mr. Stoppable put his hand on Ron's shoulder. "Oh, about six or seven hours ago."
Something seemed odd about that statement to Ron. "Where did they have to go?"
"Um, China as I recall." Mrs. Stoppable replied.
"Oh. Then they should be back anytime now?" Ron asked as if reassuring himself.
"Yes." his mother replied. "Now get some rest."
"Sure." Ron said, but he couldn't rest with the uncomfortable feeling he felt in the pit of his stomach.
Kim came to her senses some while later. The first sounds she could hear was Drakken ranting about something or other. She could tell by the way his voice sounded that she was in another room. She tried to move her arms only to find that she was tied up against a pole.
Kim glanced around the room to become familiar with her surrounds and spied Quin tied to a pole a few feet away from her, still out cold. The former villain had quite a few bruises from her fight with Shego, her biggest one being over her left eye.
Kim knew that there wasn't much she could do about Quin at the moment so she looked around trying to figure out how she could escape from the ropes that bound her. Unfortunately Drakken seemed to have wised up and took her backpack away from her.
A groan from beside her caused Kim to look back toward Quin, who was now coming to. She blinked her blue eyes a few times.
"Ow." she finally groaned. "Ok, I'm never doing that again. I'll leave the distractions to Ron."
Kim smiled in spite of the situation.
"So, what's the plan?" Quin asked.
"As soon as I figure that out, I'll let you know." Kim replied. They both turned a little when Drakken's ranting became a little louder.
"Its taken me almost two hours to fix the problem Kim Possible and her computer kid caused, but I think we're almost ready to continue with our plan!" Drakken ranted.
"Great Dr. D." Shego responded in a flat tone of voice.
Kim rolled her eyes then continued scanning the room. "Hey Quin, do you still have your backpack?"
Quin shook her head. "No, but I've got something better."
Kim looked confused. "What?"
Suddenly Rufus poked his head out of Quin's pocket. "Him." Quin replied looking down at the hairless rodent. Rufus immediately scampered up Quin's side and began chewing on the ropes.
"Y'know, I'm starting to get the feeling of deja vu!" Quin commented wryly as Rufus slowly made the rope binding Quin fray and, eventually, chewed it in two. "Thanks Rufus." Quin said as she scooped the hairless rodent into her hand and set him in her pocket.
Quin made her way toward Kim ready to untie her and beat Drakken, but she didn't count on the rope that now lay in front of her. Falling headlong into the ground, Quin glanced up at Kim, worried that the noise would attract unwanted attention.
She quickly scrambled to her feet and untied Kim as quickly as she possibly could all the time grumbling about how clumsy she was.
"Come on." Kim said, grabbing Quin's arm and pulling her toward the door on the other side of the small, crowded room. "We have got to get back to Ron."
Quin nodded as she scurried along behind Kim. She saw Kim reach into her bag and pull out the Kimmunicator. She was going to contact Wade, but was forced to stop as Shego and Drakken appeared in the only doorway in the room.
"Nice try Kimmie." Shego sneered as she ignited her glowing hands. Standing in an attack position, Shego flipped toward the two girls. Dropping the Kimmunicator, Kim flipped in front of Quin, throwing a punch at the raven-haired vixen that now stood before her. Shego merely ducked away and retaliated with a kick toward Kim's stomach.
Kim neatly jumped over Shego's leg and blocked her hand from smacking her in the face. Shego flipped over the red-headed cheerleader and quickly sent a carefully-aimed quick toward Kim's back, sending her flying. Kim's response was to quickly jump to her feet and right into a handstand. Kim kicked at Shego's face. The blow missed it's target and instead hit the villain's shoulder, knocking her backward. As Shego stumbled backward, Kim advanced on her, determined to end this fight quickly so that she could get back to Ron.
Shego immediately saw the attack coming and rolled out of Kim's range. She quickly got to her feet as she jumped in mid-air, her feet out ready to attack Kim. Kim, likewise did the same as the two met in mid-air, kicking and punching at each other.
While this spectical was going on, Quin casted a quick glance at Drakken to see what he was doing only to find him rooting for Shego. Quin rolled her eyes as she bent down and picked up the Kimmunicator that lay by her feet. Slowly slinking back into the shadows, Quin discreetly made her way out of the small room without being seen.
Casting quick glances over everything in the larger room, Quin saw the machine that Kim had tried to disarm earlier. With a sigh, Quin looked around the large machine.
Man, Drakken's getting better at this stuff, she thought as she turned on the Kimmunicator.
"Quin!" Wade exclaimed when he came on the screen, his voice sounding relieved.
"Shh!" Quin hissed. "I need to know how to disarm this machine and quickly."
"Well a piece of equipment like that takes time..." Wade whispered. "But we can do it."
"Great, now just to let you know, Drakken said something about fixing the problem you and Kim caused." Quin added, looking at the patch that was now covering that hole that Kim had made. "And it looks like he fixed it pretty well."
"Not a problem." Wade replied. "Let me scan it."
Quin did as instructed and looked at the screen. "Yeah, definately no problem." A small laser appeared out of the Kimmunicator, melting the covering off. "Now, here's what we have to do . . ."
