They continued to walk towards the school, with Ron in front. Kim and Quin kept exchanging glances.
"Ron are you positive that you're alright?" Quin asked him for the seventh time.
"I'm fine, Quin! Will you stop asking me that?!" Ron shouted, his temper rising.
"Sorry." Quin whispered. She didn't mean to upset him.
Kim looked at Quin and swore that she saw Quin's eyes water a little. Then she turned back to Ron who looked like he regretted yelling at Quin. Kim kept looking at them both then sighed. She had the feeling the Quin and Ron liked each other, a lot. They where just afraid to show it.
They entered the school just as the bell rang. \\What am I gonna do?// was the thought that kept going through Ron's head all day. He couldn't concentrate all day. Finally the lunch bell rang. Ron thought it never would.
As he entered the cafeteria he saw Kim and Quin sitting at a table, waiting for him. He sat in between them.
"Hey, guys. . ." Ron said in a bummed tone.
"What's wrong?" Quin asked with concern.
"Uh? Oh, nothing. . . "he answered. But Quin knew him better than that; she knew he was lying.
“Ron, seriously, what’s wrong? First you space out on us on the phone. Then you yell at me for being concerned. And now you’re avoiding us and lying to us!” she yelled, standing up. Kim sat quietly, sipping her soda, watching Quin make a scene.
Now everyone sitting around them were staring at Quin and Ron.
He has never seen her so mad before. “Oh,” Quin blushed, “Hehe. . .” She sat down, her face a bright red. She was hoping that her scene didn’t make people think she was still evil. It took her a while just to get as far as people not staring at her like she’s gonna attack if they took their eyes off of her.
Ron was shocked, “I-I-I I’m sorry, Quin. . ." he said in a low voice. Quin mumbled an apology back. Kim was still staring at both of her red-faced friends. Both of them were picking at their food.

(later, at Quin’s house)
Kim was over, talking with Quin.
“So, should we call him?” Kim asked Quin, who was pacing around her room.
“Sure.” Quin picked up her phone and dialed Ron’s number, but no answer. "Let's try again in 15 minutes."
*15minutes later*
"Still no answer."
They tried to call 10 times before deciding to give up.
"Bye, Quin. I have to get home before my mom kills me. See ya tomorrow."
"Okay. Bye, Kim."Quin said as Kim left. She smiled at Quin before leaving.
But really Ron was home the whole time. He knew who was calling because of the caller ID on his phone. He didn't want to have to explian himself to Quin.
He sighed and went to sleep. Or at least tried. He couldn't sleep because he felt so bad for not telling Quin his secret. Also he kept wheezing and coughing all night long. He tried cough syrup, but it didn't work and it usually did. \\What's wrong with me? Why can't I stop coughing?//
He went to his parents' room. Both were asleep.
"Mom? *cough* Mom?" His mom woke up.
"What is it, hon?"
"Well, *cough, cough* I can't stop coughing and *cough* not even cough syrup *cough, wheeze* worked."
Then a look of worry spread across her face. "Charles! Wake up!" His dad woke up.
"Huh? *yawn* What is it?"
"We have to bring Ron to the doctor's, now!" she replied as she ran towards the coat rack and slipped on her jacket.
Ron and his dad did the same and they all headed towards the hospital. Ron kept coughing and wheezing the whole time.
Finally they arrived. Ron's mom went up to receptionist, talked to her a bit, and then sat down next to Ron and his dad.
Kim's mom just happened to be working a late night shift. She went up to Ron's parents.
"What are you guys doing here?" she asked with concern.
Ron's mom replied, "Well Ron has cancer, but we're not sure what kind. He all of a sudden started to cough uncontrolably. So we brought him here to see what the doctor can do about this."
"Oh, my!" Kim's mom said in shock.
"But, *cough* I don't want you to tell Kim.*cough, cough, cough* Okay? I *cough* don't want her to worry." Ron said.
Kim's mom looked reluctant. "Well, alright."
"Thanks, *cough* Dr. P."
