Ron's Secret - Chapter Seven

~*~Chapter 7: One Messed Up Night

As Quin and Ron walked to the high school, Ron kept coughing once in a while, which got Quin worried. Once they entered the gym, they spotted Kim and Josh dancing together. Close by was a couple snuggled close together. Mr. Barkin walked to the couple and pulled out a ruler. “You must be at least a foot apart.” he said as he separated the couple.

Ron gave Quin a little smile. She smiled back – or at least she tried. She couldn’t help but wonder why Ron went to the dance with lung cancer. They walked up to where Kim and Josh were sitting. “Hey, Kim. Josh.” Quin said as she and Ron sat down next to them. When Ron did that he started to cough again. Kim and Quin exchanged worried glances.

Then a new song started to play:



*The real me is southern girl,

With her Levis on and an open heart.

Wish I could save the world,

Like I was super girl.

The real me used to laugh all night,

Lying in the grass, just talking about love.

But lately I've been jaded,

Life got so complicated*



“Uhh, Quin, *cough* do you wanna dance?” Ron asked as he stood up. “Sure.” Quin replied as she stood up as well. Ron wrapped his arms around her waist and she put her arms around his neck as they started to dance. Kim and Josh also started to dance.



*I'm still thinking about it,

Almost forgot what it was like

Do you know what it feels like?

I can say anything crazy.

I hit the ground

with nothing but a T-shirt on,

I never felt so beautiful.

Quin and Ron gazed into each other’s eyes. Ron coughed a little, but that didn’t stop them from dancing. Quin managed a smile and this time she didn’t force it. She was so happy to be with Ron, even though he had cancer.

and just like that all my walls come down.

It's like a private joke,

Just meant for us to know.

I relate to you naturally,

everybody else just fades away.

Sometimes it's hard to breathe,

Just knowing you found me.*

Quin thought that everything was going great until Ron started a major coughing fit. He let go of Quin’s waist and covered his mouth trying to stifle the coughs, but it wasn’t working. Everyone stopped dancing and looked at him, wondering what was wrong. Kim ran to Quin and Ron to see Ron starting to cough up blood again. But this time it was worse. Kim and Quin watched in horror and disgust. “Outta the way people!” Mr. Barkin shouted as the crowd parted to let him through.

Once he saw blood all over the floor he shouted, “Ms. Whisp! Call 9-1-1!” as he tried to calm Ron down. But he kept coughing like mad and spitting blood everywhere. Some of the blood flew towards Bonnie and stained her pearl white dress. She was grossed out and would have yelled at him, but she was actually worried about him.

A few minutes later an ambulance arrived and the paramedics rushed inside with a stretcher. By now Ron was starting to choke. Kim, Quin, and Mr. Barkin were trying to help calm him down but it wasn’t working. They were relived to see the paramedics as they lifted Ron onto the stretcher and brought him to the waiting ambulance. After he was inside it, it rushed off towards the hospital, sirens blaring loudly.

Kim called Wade and asked him to call Ron’s parents and hers. She wanted her parents to take her and Quin to the hospital. Inside the car, Quin and Kim sat in shocked silence. Both were praying that Ron was going to be alright.
