Kim felt the house shaking nonstop, and objects pelting both her and Ron could be felt through the clothes, some of which had been lifted off. She yelled several times, but the roar of the tornado was too loud.
Suddenly, Kim felt like she was floating. Horrified, she grabbed anything within reach to keep grounded. Her hands grabbed an arm-Ron's arm-and held on tightly. The noise was unbearable, and the wind was tugging at Kim, making it harder to hold on. A noise similar to cracking was heard, and the walls of the closet fell in. Kim groaned, and everything went black.
Silence. Kim had woken up with part of a wall on her, to no noise at all. She shoved the wall off her and shakily stood up, looking around. Everything was devastated. The trees were blown over, the houses were leveled, and the cars that had been outside were twisted into almost unrecognizable lumps of metal. Kim then examined herself-bruises, bleeding cuts, but nothing too serious. Then, facing what was her house, she began searching for Ron.
Ron was unconscious under a pile of rubble, bruised and bleeding but alive. His leg was at an unatural angle, though, and when Kim tried to move Ron he groaned. She finally managed to half-drag him over to a semi-clear area of grass to wait.
What stuck Kim as odd, as she surveyed the damage again, was that no one else seemed to be crying, or screaming, or calling for loved ones. "Are they all dead?" Kim wondered. But they couldn't all be. Kim and Ron had survived in a closet, afterall. Kim stuck a hand in her pocket, and took out the Kimmunicator.
She figured she would check on Wade, and then call 911 for Ron. "But what if Wade's hurt too? Or worse?" Kim turned on the Kimmunicator, and called for 911. In the backrouned, Ron groaned some more. Kim looked out again over the damaged houses and feared for her parents, Ron's parents, her friends, and Tim and Jim. Things couldn't get any worse.
It got dark. The ambulance arrived just after sunset, and an EMS explained, while his other companion lifted Ron into the ambulance, that the police department had been hit, so a lot of calls were saved and sent elsewhere. Thankfully, Middleton Hospital and the surrounding areas had been spared. But downtown Middletown, and Middleton Grade School (grades K-5) had been demolished.
"The Space Center was also messed up pretty badly, so-" Kim gasped, so loudly that the man stopped talkeding. That was where her dad worked. Abruptly, she turned on heel and ran.
Kim barely noticed the leveled houses and she ran past them, nor the people crying and hugging in front. She felt numb all over, and was running faster than she'd ever run before. Somehow, her mind knew where the hospital was even in the dark. Kim needed to know that at least one family member was okay, otherwise she might lose it. The hospital was her best bet for finding all four, and Ron and his family.
Kim pushed the ER doors open, not even noticing the people in the ER until a red-headed person caught her eye. She turned and ran towards them. The woman was treating a patient with some cuts and encouringing them, saying everything would be okay. Kim ran and, half crying, threw her arms around her. "Mom!!!"
Mrs.Dr.Possible turned around, and her face broke into a sad smile. "Kimmie! Oh, thank goodness..." The mother and daughter hugged for awhile befoe breaking up. Kim asked, "Where's dad? And Tim and Jim?"
Mrs.Dr.Possible frowned, and answered, "Your father's got a broken arm, and..." She suddenly looked very sad. "...Tim and Jim are missing still. But Ron and his parents are on the second floor."
Kim's spirits fell. Sure, Tim and Jim were annoying, but she loved them. "Do something! a voice in her head said, sharply. An idea formed in Kim's head. She kissed her mom and said, with confidence, "I'll look for them, then. And I promise Mom, that I'll find them." With that final note, she left.
